Montverde Academy’s Theatre curriculum is designed to inspire students at all grade levels to realize their unique potential while fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and others. From Lower School through Upper School, we believe that participation in and exposure to the arts is an essential part of a well-rounded education. Our programs expand students' horizons, encourage creative expression, and promote tolerance by connecting them with diverse perspectives and cultures.
Lower School
Every student participates in one theatrical production each year, gaining foundational experience in acting and performance.
Middle School
- Sixth-grade students participate in a semester-long theatre class, where they learn the basics of acting and stagecraft.
- Seventh and eighth-grade students can choose theatre as an elective, further honing their performance skills and creative expression.
Upper School
- A variety of specialized courses are offered, including Theatre History, Theatre for Social Justice, Theatre and Film, Improvisation, and Children’s Theatre.
- These courses provide students with an in-depth understanding of theatre, from classic plays to modern performance techniques.
Performance Opportunities
- MVA maintains a rigorous performance schedule through the MVA Theatre Conservatory.
- Each year, the program stages a Shakespeare production
- All MVA students are invited to audition for productions, providing opportunities for involvement both on and off stage.
Extracurricular and Honors
- MVA’s popular International Thespian Society (ITS) chapter competes in Florida district and state festivals, consistently earning accolades.
- The Academy maintains strong relationships with esteemed local theatres, including the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre.
Recognition and Alumni Success
- Our productions and performers have received numerous honors, including Applause Awards, Cappies, and recognition from the Florida International Thespian Society.
- Many MVA theatre alumni continue their passion for the stage after graduation, pursuing theatre at the collegiate, community, and regional levels.
