We offer theatre classes during the academic day in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools in addition to an after-school theatre program for Upper School students. Academic classes include Acting 1-4 and Directing, Theatre History, Improv, Main Stage Production, Children’s Theatre and Technical Theatre.
Main stage productions have included “Barnum: The New Musical,” “13 The Musical,” “A Christmas Carol,” “A Servant of Two Masters,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Into the Woods,”and “No Way To Treat A Lady.” The Academy also works to include our younger and older students in joint productions. This has led to all-school productions like “Annie,” “Seussical the Musical,” “Mulan,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “SHREK the Musical.”
Montverde Academy has a popular International Thespian Society chapter that competes in Florida districts and state festivals. We have strong relationships with theatres like the Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts Center, The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Moonlight Players, and Mad Cow Theatre, as well as other local high schools.
Our theatre students participate in the Dr. Phillips Applause Awards and the Central Florida Cappies every year, and, on average, the theatre department makes 25 trips a year into the community to see amateur and professional theatre. Our thespians has also been invited to perform at the 2018 AHSTF (American High School Theatre Festival) with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
