Lessons & Carols Annual Performance Starts Season on High Note
The annual performance of Lessons & Carols at the Clermont Performing Arts Center, attracted hundreds of guests to enjoy the sounds of the season. Students in our Upper, Middle and Lower School choirs, our orchestral students and the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra directed by MVA’s Hanrich Claassen performed the beloved and beautiful carols. Returning favorite Ben Gulley, operatic grande tenor, was joined this year by Goitsemang Lehobye, a South African, award-winning international opera soprano, as the lead on many of the songs.
Mr. Gulley and Ms. Lehobye captivated crowds with their amazing voices soaring on pieces such as, “We Shall Behold Him,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and the beautifully touching “The Prayer,” to the heartfelt “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and joyful “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”
Nine lessons from Bible passages were read by local dignitaries that included Gayle Ash, Clermont Mayor, Chuck Broadway, Clermont Chief of Police, and Fr. James Dorn, St. Mathais Episcopal Church. MVA faculty and administrators also read passages with the closing lesson delivered by Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring.
It was a lovely evening that started off the holiday season in style. If you missed it, it is available for your viewing enjoyment here.
