Week-Long Celebration to Honor Diversity

We don’t have to promote diversity on our campus – we live it daily! With students having citizenship in more than 90 countries attending the Academy, we are excited to be honoring and celebrating our diversity with a week-long Diversity Celebration! Upper and middle school students have the opportunity to show their national pride on designated days during the week to wear their home country’s flag colors on a shirt and a socks and hat day, wear a flag pin on Wednesday dress and on Friday wear a national team jersey.

On Wednesday, Emmy-nominated motivational speaker, Mark Brown, will deliver a powerful message about tolerance, respect and the value of relationships. By using the popular Disney film, “Beauty and the Beast,” his program addresses acceptance of differences and the prevalence of "verbal weapons.” Using an artful combination of hilarious humor and hard-hitting honesty, Mark covers the issues of bullying and the importance of tolerance and acceptance among peers. He will deliver two age-appropriate presentations at the Lower School assembly, 8:00 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium; and Middle and Upper School at 11:30 a.m. in the NEST. Parents are welcome to attend.

The week concludes with a Diversity Fest on Friday! The Fest will feature performances by Opera Orlando, a Caribbean steel drum band, Latin band, African dancers, Chinese lion and performers, Brazilian Dancers, and a Bahamian Junkanoo band. There will be incredibly delicious food on hand from six food trucks, food tastings featuring flavors from around the world, teen and kiddie obstacle courses, and basketball inflatables. The event is free to attend and begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Centennial Circle.

We look forward to a fun-filled Diversity Celebration!
