Surviving the Senior Year Successfully

The senior year is an exciting time for students poised on the verge of adulthood, but having to remain focused to finish out the final year in high school. There are perks and expectations of our seniors and our annual senior retreat is the way we help our seniors navigate it all.

The annual Surviving Your Senior Year Retreat kicked off with a catered lunch followed by a number of informative presentations that covered a number of topics from transcripts, community service hours, NCAA and college admission requirements, to fun things like senior speeches, privileges, pictures, prom, and graduation information. Class office nominees gave speeches and the prom theme was voted on. There was a lot of ground covered!

Once students were released to get changed for an evening activity, the fun began. Seniors were transported to The Barn at Mazak Ranch in Bushnell, which was a beautifully decorated site that surrounded by serene fields. Everyone enjoyed an evening of good food from Sonny’s BBQ and fun that included a mechanical bull, games, a photo booth, line dancing, and time to just relax and enjoy the balmy evening with friends.

They all returned to Nest for a camp out and continuation of the fun and games. Voting results for the prom theme were tabulated and this year’s theme will be Midnight Masquerade. The senior class also elected student government officers who are Julian Kong as the senior class president and Varina Zhang as vice president.

Students were up and at ‘em early, starting off the day with Chick-fil-A breakfast and a day of team building activities. They hit the fields for team games that ensured students collaborated and used their strategic and critical thinking in games of friendly competition that also encouraged loads of laughs. The final team building exercise of the day was the building of 22 bicycles, which will be donated to the Lake County Sheriff’s office.

The weekend finally slowed down with a leisurely pool party with pizza provided by the alumni association, which was a great way for students to cool down and relax.

Thank you to all the staff and faculty members whose time and effort made the non-stop weekend so successful!
