Business, Finance, and Management SAC class welcomes Harold Mills
On Thursday, March 2, the Business, Finance and Management Study Area Concentration, under the direction of Economics teacher Mr. Lance Walsworth, added the topic of Finance and Entrepreneurship to their Spring series by hosting Guest Speaker Mr. Harold Mills, vice chairman of ZeroChaos and voting member of the Atlanta Bank of the Federal Reserve. Mr. Mills began his career with General Electric and CEO Jack Welch, attended Harvard Business School and eventually became a fixture in the Orlando business community as CEO and now vice chairman of ZeroChaos, a global provider of workforce management solutions.
Mr. Mills began his engaging presentation by talking about the importance of life-long learning in being a successful leader, encouraging students to research business leaders who are the best in their respective fields and emulate them. He connected his talk to students’ current experience, saying that in business, as in athletics, students should be driven by encountering higher levels of competition. Students asked Entrepreneurship questions, so Mr. Mills reviewed financing a small business and options for raising capital. He advised them that a small business must have a problem that it is going to solve or a delight it is going to provide, using Uber, AirBnB, and his own company as timely examples. Every good presentation leaves an audience wanting more and the students are already looking forward to Mr. Mills returning to MVA to share more of his experience and wisdom with them!
As the 2017 Spring semester series continues, MVA will welcome Ms. Liefke Meyers from the Orlando Economic Development Commission on March 31. The Business, Finance, and Management students look forward to welcoming her to our campus!
