Girls Cross Country wins Inaugural Citrus League Conference Championship Meet
On Saturday, October 10, Montverde Academy won the inaugural Citrus League Girls Cross Country Conference Championship Meet.
Lily Henne, a junior, placed first overall with a time of 19:44.00, with Kendyl Cardwell, a senior, just behind in second with 20:09.90. Also turning in outstanding performances were underclassmen Karrah White in fifth place and Jayci Brauman earning ninth.
"Over the course of this last year, the girls have endured injuries, the abrupt ending to a promising track season and a limited meet schedule during the 2020 XC campaign, making all of us exceptionally grateful to not only compete, but to continue to grow and improve," said Lori Treweek, Montverde Academy Head Cross Country Coach. "Winning the inaugural conference championship is a reflection of how hard these girls have worked on the trails, on the track, in the pool, and in the weight room to prepare for competition."
Mia Hirhara also had an outstanding weekend. In her first cross country competition, she earned third place in the JV race!
"We're grateful for an opportunity to have had an opportunity to continue competing this season in The Citrus League," said Treweek.
The girls and boys cross country teams will now shift their focus to the state series, with an eye on taking each team to the state championships.
