Heartfelt performances and presentations honored the nearly 300 grandparents who attended the Lower School’s annual Grandparents Day event on Valentine’s Day! Grandparents were serenaded with many songs and tributes.
MVA’s Children’s Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Mobley, opened both performances by singing two songs, “Grandma’s Chicken Soup,” and “A Song for Grandparents Day.” Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Betts’ first-grade classes combined to perform, “We Love Our Grandparents/Tony Chestnut.” Ms. Taylor’s Pre-K3 class sang, “Grandma, Grandpa.” The Mrs. Sinopoli’s Kindergarten performed a lovely rendition of “A Beautiful Day,” and Mrs. Shirley’s class sweetly presented “Grandparents, You Are Special.” Mrs. Garland’s Pre-K4 class sang “National Grandparents Day Song,” while Mrs. Muniz’s class sang the traditional “Granny at the Fair,” performed for the past ten Grandparents Day events.
Our second-grade students sang “Let’s Go See Our Grandparents,” and Mr. Dinsmore played guitar for fan-favorite, “You are my Sunshine.” The fourth-grade students in Mrs. Schield’s class gave a preview of their show, “Thwacked,” to be performed May 7; while Mrs. Tannenhill’s and Mrs. Tomlinson’s third grade classes performed the hysterical, “I’m all about My Gramps and Grandma” rap.
Mr. Hand’s fourth grade class performed a moving version of “Stand By Me” on Orff instruments. The fifth-grade students were challenged to do some research to learn more about their grandparents by interviewing them. Each student shared something interesting or new that they discovered about their grandparents. There were many wonderful facts that students shared.
The Lower School Pom Squad fired everyone up with a spirited performance. The finale culminated in a heartwarming thank you with all students joining in a song to send grandparents on their way. We love honoring our grandparents!!

Thank you to our wonderful grandparents who made nearly $4,000 in donations as part of our Giving Tree fundraiser, which supports the Time to Lead campaign for our new Middle School. Also a big thank you to our volunteers, faculty, staff, and students who make our events so successful!
