The MVA Lady Eagles Soccer team is working hard in prepartion for the Ladies Soccer College Showcase on Saturday, February 29. Our Lady Eagles take the pitch against Florida Institute of Technology at 9:30 a.m., at 10:20 vs. University of Tampa, at 11:10 a.m. competing with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and a final game at 12:50 p.m. against ASA (College Miami) Silver Storm.
“This is a unique event that celebrates women’s futbol and our MIFC program,” said Robbie Aristodemo, Head Coach for the Girls Varsity Soccer team and Montverde International Futbol Club Director. “The opportunity to showcase many talented female athletes is a blessing for the MVA and the Lake County community. It began with the idea of bringing top athletes to MVA and escalated into this pioneering event, colleges and club teams under one umbrella, showcasing their talents. We are fortunate to be able to host such an event and welcome all the teams. Of course, having the Florida State University, the 2018 National champions, play University of Central Florida is a huge draw. Having two current student athletes, Jody Brown (FSU) and Maria Tregansin (UCF), committed to play for those schools helps forge relationships.”
This unprecedented event features seven top Florida DI and DII colleges and universities competing against each other and MVA, with the FSU v. UCF match-up as a significant highlight. The Showcase is a great way to further promote girls’/women’s sports as MVA is known for our competitive athltics.
“Women’s sports are often overlooked and this Showcase is one way that we are highlighting the highly competitive soccer teams we have in Florida,” said Coach Aristodemo. “This event will feature more than 200 collegiate level players and our varsity team in highly competitive matches.
Our MVA Lady Eagles are two time FHSSA 4A State Champions, and this year, have an undefeated record of 12-0, even with a schedule that has been challenged with many game cancellations. The team has a rigorous training schedule that is comprised of strength training, skill building, ball work drills, video review and anyalsis, speed training, and more.
“Our team will face tough competition, but games that stretch our student-athletes’ abilities will help prepare them for the next step in their athletic pursuits. The Showcase is also an opportunity for our players to be seen by college coaches. We also have three MVA alumni who we will be playing against, Adriana Ordonez (’18) at Embry Riddle, Nicole Barnett (’17) at Florida Tech and Kalena Iwashita (’19) at ASA.”
Come out and enjoy exciting women’s soccer at the Ladies Soccer Showcase on February 29!
