The Ninth Annual Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament (MAST) will host La Liga giants Valencia CF and USSDA powerhouse FC Dallas among competitive domestic and international teams on the Montverde Academy campus. The tournament begins tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7 through Saturday, January 11, 2020.
The MAST High School group will have eight teams competing from Wednesday through Saturday featuring teams from Maryland, Florida, Canada, Germany, and Brazil. This group will also include MVA Eagles, which will showcase talented SIMA student-athletes. The MAST Super Group will showcase four teams playing matches from Tuesday through Saturday. Featured teams include Spain, Brazil and Texas; and SIMA GOLD Elite will compete as the fourth and final team in the field. The tournament has a round-robin format where top teams advance to a single-elimination round with the final match held on Saturday, January 11. Both High School and Super Group brackets will have their own Championship matches.
"Without a doubt, this will be the most competitive MAST we have ever had in my 10 years at the Academy," said Mike Potempa, SIMA Director and Head Coach. “This is the first time that MAST has teams from other countries and the U.S. Development Academy. To attract teams such as Valencia, FC Dallas, and Esporte Clube Jacuipense, is very special. SIMA is dedicated to the overall development of our student-athletes, and we look forward to participating against the strongest competition possible. The Super Group as well as our High School group will make this a tremendous event for everyone to enjoy."
