MVA Music Students are Enjoying the Sweet Sounds of Success
There are many musically talented students in the variety of programs that are offered at Montverde Academy. We are proud to share the success that our students are achieving!
Fifth-grade students Bridget Robbins and Emilie Lapouble auditioned and were chosen to participate in the Florida Elementary Music Educators Association (FEMEA) Regional Honor Choir on the campus of University of South Florida (USF) on November 2, 2019. The students joined 120 students from all over Florida in a day of intense rehearsing to learn three songs that they then performed that evening. They were under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Redding, the 2019 Grammy Award Winning Educator of the Year. We were proud to have them represent the Academy at this central Florida Event.
Another Lower School student, Carine Hayes who is in fifth-grade, auditioned and was selected for the Elementary All-State Choir which will perform at the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) Conference in Tampa in January.
A number of Upper and Middle School students in the Music Conservatory auditioned and were selected to perform in the following ensembles during the FMEA Conference in January: Zayna JeBailey (senior), who will perform with the All-State Women’s Choir; Dylan Truenow (freshman) will perform with All-State Men’s Choir; Yilin (Selina) Xu (senior) will play with the High School Honors Orchestra; and Jason Tejada (eighth-grade) will play with the Middle School Honors Orchestra.
Along with Yanbo (Frank) Guo, a junior, Selina Xu competed in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Florida Chapter Senior Young Artist Competition at USF in Tampa. Selina earned an Honorable Mention Certificate in the String Instrument Category for her participation. She was accompanied by Mrs. Mary Mincy.
Selina was also chosen as one of eight finalists to compete in the Annual Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras (FSYO) Concerto Competition this coming weekend, November 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Stephens Auditorium on the Montverde Academy Campus. She will perform the first movement of Edward Elgar’s cello concerto in E minor with Mrs. Mincy as her accompanist.
Congratulations to all of these students on their success!
