Casual Day Raises More than $11,000 for Hurricane Dorian Relief
Students of all ages, faculty and staff enjoyed a Casual Day this past Wednesday! For a $10 donation, the cost of buying lunch or a couple of cups of coffee, the MVA community raised $11,000 in one day for the Bahamian communities that are recovering from the catastrophic Hurricane Dorian that has left many of the tiny island-nation’s people without the essentials of food, water, clothing, and shelter.
The funds raised will be donated to The Green Turtle Cay Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists to promote, develop, redevelop, encourage and maintain housing, education, healthcare, employment, commerce, economic development, and transportation facilities in the Green Turtle Cay, Abaco community. Green Turtle Cay is one of the smaller Bahamian islands which was devastated by the hurricane. Our funds will specifically help the Amy Roberts Primary School on the island.
MVA is developing plans to participate in an Adopt-a-School program in Green Turtle Cay; more details will be shared as they become available. In addition, the Upper School is working to organize a service trip to Green Turtle Cay during Spring Break 2020 or in the summer of 2020.
Thank you to the MVA community for supporting this fundraising event!
