Local Entrepreneur Shares Insight with Entrepreneurial Class and Club

Mr. Lance Walsworth
For the second year, the Entrepreneurial Class and the Entrepreneurship Club are proud to host a speaker series for students interested in careers in business. The first speaker in the 2019 Fall Series was Mr. Robert Thompson, Founder and President of the Winter Park Consulting Group.
Prior to founding his own consulting firm, Mr. Thompson, a seventh generation Lake County resident and a graduate of South Lake High School, the University of Central Florida and Harvard Business School, worked as the Chief Marketing officer for Old Florida National Bank and as the Chief Strategy / Planning officer for the Tavistock Group, as well as having owned his own marketing and planning company, Thompson-Wesley-Wolfe LLC.
Mr. Thompson is a repeat speaker for our series as he’s spoken to entrepreneurial and economics students for the past three years. Mr. Thompson’s discussion with students centered around three key topics: making meaning, finding passion and understanding your value. He spoke about his experiences as both an entrepreneur and as an executive centering around a purpose not just making money. He explained that in his life he has come to view money as a way to control and value time and that a focus solely on making money often leads to complications in other aspects of life, and encouraged students to get experience in as many areas of business as possible. He said that was a way to help find and focus your passion; while letting you find your greatest strengths and weaknesses. He told students that knowing yourself is a great asset in understanding your value to a business.
The 60+ students in the Entrepreneurship Club and Entrepreneurship Classes appreciated Mr. Thompson’s time and thank him for sharing his insight and life experiences on starting a business.
