Montverde Academy celebrated National Commitment Day, the deadline for seniors to pick their college, with a final signing of commitment letters by 37 student-athletes.
There were a number of tennis players from the boys’ tennis team who signed letters of intent including: Bernardo Costa, University of West Florida; Vitor Jordao, Michigan Technical University; Vasco Belaunde, Coppin State University; Bruno Nunes, Belmont University; Joao Paulella, Edinboro University and Henrique Souza signed to Aledphi University. These senior student-athletes made valuable contributions to MVA’s win at the DecoTurf High School Tennis Team Championships, earning their first National title in school history.
Representing the girls’ tennis team, LoveStar Alexis signed to Middle Tennesee State University, Giovanna Jallas signed to Concordia College of New York, and Luiza Fullan signed to Charleston Southern University.
Sixteen SIMA student-athletes signed to their respective colleges. Overall, five players signed with NCAA Division I schools, eight committed to NCAA Division II schools, two NAIA commitments, and one NCAA Division III commitment. Forward Bleno Cruz and midfielder Joao Pedro Souza both signed to Marshall University, Matheus Maccari, Christopher Jensen, and Juan Pablo Echeverry Gomez all committed to the University of Indianapolis.
Additional commitments include Joao Gallo Lima, University of Charleston, West Virginia; Caio Brandao, Queens University of Charlotte; Xavier Laneuville, St. Francis University; Douglas Oliveira, King University; Joao Gabriel Curvo and Luiz Oliveira, Wingate University; Mario Valdes, St. Thomas University; Luiz Sodre, Luther College; and Ricardo Paiva, Keiser University.
Alana Shou of the softball team, signed to Pasco Hernandez State College. The team is currently competing in the 2019 District Championships where the Lady Eagles earned a win over the First Academy for their seventh straight District title.
MVA swimmers Marianna Alcantara and Ketlyn Rodriguez made their commitment to the University of North Carolina, Pembroke where they will help the Braves compete in the Sun Coast Swimming Conference Championships in the 2019-20 season.
Representing golf from the BGGA, Georgy Voronov signed to Johnson and Wales, Miami, Teagan Devoe signed to the University of Hartford, and Christian Wentzel committed to New York University.
Players from the MVA lacrosse team who signed commitment letters include, All-American Justin Williams, Saint Leo University; Robert Ernst, Limestone College, and Wheeler Gibson, Berry College.
Sarianna Anglero from the girls indoor and beach volleyball teams committed to Hofstra University. Anglero was a key team member who helped lead the Lady Eagles to finish third in the 2019 State Championships.
Two Center for Basketball Development (CBD) student-athletes signed commitment letters. Pavel Zakharov signed with Gonzaga University, joining MVA alumnus Filip Petrušev ('18), and will look to compete in the NCAA Tournament in 2019-20 season. Horace Broadnax signed with the United States Naval Academy and will look to compete in the Patriot League.
