Three MVA Upper School Students Compete in Oration Contest
Three MVA students recently competed in the annual Society of the Sons of the American Revolution’s Joseph S. Rumbaugh Oration Contest. The contest has three levels of competition, with round one featuring students presenting a five to six-minute speech from 17 different high schools in Lake and Sumter Counties. Our students, Hanako Goetz, Matthew Karen and Varina Zhang, were selected to move to the second round, which was presenting to the judges of the Lake-Sumter Chapter. The judges selected Matthew and his speech titled, “The Common Soldier,” to move on to the next round.
Matthew presented his speech at the Florida Society of the Sons of the American Revolution 2019 Spring Board of Management meeting in early February. He was awarded second place and received a certificate and a $500 prize from the FLSSAR education committee and $100 from the FLSSAR Ladies Auxiliary.
Congratulations to our students for representing MVA!
