Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team Headed to States

It was a tough game for both sides as St. John’s Bartram Trail team was aggressive and doing their best to keep up with the fleet feet of our Lady Eagles. They did so in vain as Vivianne Bessette, junior, set junior and soccer phenom Jody Brown up. Jody turned on the speed and beat out the defender down the field to score her 31st goal of the season.
The team has earned an impressive year with a record of 22-0-0, with 83 goals scored and only three scored against us, with 19 shutouts (12 in a row). The win takes the Lady Eagles to the Florida High School State Championships where they’ll take on Archbishop Mccarthy Mavericks from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., currently ranked No.1 in the USA Today Super 25. This will be the ladies’ third trip to State finals in as many years!
The Class 4A State final will be held on Friday, Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stetson University campus in the Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, 260 East Eulcid Ave, Deland, FL. Tickets cost $9.00 if pre-purchased or $12.00 at the gate.
“We’re a young team with only five seniors, so I’m very proud of how well they’ve maintained their momentum through this long season,” said Coach Robbie Aristodemo. “Heading into the championship game, we’ll continue training hard to prepare for another tough game as their team is undefeated this season as well.”
We congratulate the team on their semi-final win and wish the team well as they head on to the finals! Go Eagles!
