Four Middle School Girls’ Represent MVA in All Star Competition

By Coach Andrew DeClerq
It was a great afternoon spent with all the young ladies who participated in the All Star Competition held at Trinity Christian in Apopka.
Ava Barbey made it to the final round of the 3-point contest when three girls tied with one basket made for three points each. In the final round, Ava made five baskets from beyond the arc to win the competition by just one point.
The girls’ game was an exciting, well-played game as neither team led by more than five points at any point the game. MVA was represented on the Home Team by Ace Aliusheva and Veronica Newsome, and on the Away Team by Ava Barbey and Chaney Hollis.
The Away Team made a late run behind some pressure defense turned to add points via a lay-up by Chaney Hollis. The game came down to the final seconds as the Home Team brought the call up down just one point. Chaney turned on the heat again to secure a steal and seal the game for the Away Team win, 23-24 was the final score.
Ace earned the Home Team MVP leading the way in scoring with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Chaney had a great game as well with six points, four assists, and at least six blocks and six steals.
Congratulations to all of the young ladies who participated and represented MVA in Character and Excellence.
