Free Baseball Clinic Hosted by Alumnus Francisco Lindor (’11)
More than 140 baseball players ages 10-15 participated in a baseball clinic hosted by Francisco Lindor (’11), MVA alumnus and Cleveland Indians shortstop. Lindor is a three-time American League All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger Winner. Though only 25, he has made a huge impact as a player for the Indians and already enjoyed playing in a World Series.
Despite his success, Francisco remains a humble young man who is devoted to his family and giving back to his community. That is why he offered a free baseball clinic for interested student-athletes in the community.
“I wanted to offer this baseball clinic because it’s important to give back,” said Lindor. “Montverde Academy is like a second home for me, so that is why we held the clinic here. When I came here as a student, I received a lot of help and would not be where I am today without it. I want to help others – to let them know that they have to focus on their school work first and then practicing a sport is second. When you work hard, anything is possible.”
Lindor had some help coaching the players from friends, Derek Dietrich of the Miami Marlins, Austin Allen of the San Diego Padres, and fellow MVA alumnus Kerry Wright (’18) who is currently playing baseball as a Cardinal at the University of Louisville. Also on hand to help during the clinic were a number of current MVA Eagles baseball players.
It was a great day of baseball and we thank Francisco for the opportunity to host the event. Check out this video of the event!
