MVA Academic Team Starts Season Strong

On Friday, November 9, the Varsity Academic Team competed in the Florida Gateway College Fall Tournament in Lake City, Fla. This tournament was a National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) qualifier which requires teams of students to answer 20 Timed Questions and then three untimed bonus questions each to acquire the maximium number of points. At the end of the preliminary rounds, the MVA team produced a solid 3-2 record and continued on to play one more game, ultimately losing to Leon High School in a closely contended match.
In individual scoring, two of our team members scored in the Top 20 out of 134 players. Matthew Karen ended the tournament earning a 13th place finish and Christopher Bode ranked 19th! All of our team members, Matthew Karen, Christopher Bode, Samanvitha Nomula, Jacob Lewin, AJ Aziz, and Matt Parks, scored and contributed to our overall successful run!
The Academic Team will compete again at the 17th Annual Roger R. Ross Montverde Academic tournament on Saturday, January 12, 2019 hosted on the MVA campus. They will also in the Lake/Sumter Counties competitive season in January through February 2019.
