The Lady Eagles varsity volleyball team played hard for a big win over The First Academy to bring home the 2018-19 District Champion title. In the quarterfinal game of the tournament, the Lady Eagles beat Windermere Prep 3-0 as student-athlete Jojo Brown led the team with 22 kills. They moved on to finals, playing well through all five sets, which were a rollercoaster of back and forth wins to the final 15-11 final set for the match victory.
Brown earned First Team All-District, Duda Vallilo earned Second Team All-District, and Lucy Pereira and Sarianna Anglero each earned an honorable mention. The Lady Eagles move on to play in the regional tournament taking on The Villages Charter in the Nest on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 p.m.
"We were in every game to the fullest and I kept telling our girls to play hard through until the end," said Rachel Adams, head coach. “I’m so proud of what this team has accomplished this year. We’re ready to finish up this week heading into the regional competition strong and prepared to play our hearts out.
While the ladies were on the volleyball court, our Middle School co-ed soccer team was on the soccer field playing Hampden Debose for the 2018-19 Tri-County Christian League (TCCL) Championship. Hampden Debose jumped to an early lead in the first few minutes, but had their goal answered by Zhani Burgess who scored for MVA.
The Eagles trailed 2-1 but Burgess answered back for the Eagles with a second goal tying the game 2-2 just before the half. The Eagles battled through the third quarter and in the final quarter of play, Burgess completed his hat trick by scoring another goal for the win.
"I am so proud of our kids and how they performed," said David Graydon, head coach. "We were trailing at a certain point in the game and the kids overcame the challenge while staying positive and having fun. That is what this game is all about."
Finally, early in the week our girls' Middle School volleyball team was crowned champions upon their win at the St. Barnabas Tournament! In their final game, they beat St. Barnabas 2-0 (25-21, 25-19). They also hold an undefeated record for the season!
"The team played and worked hard all season long, and I'm very proud of their ability on the court," said Tom Narducci, head coach. "Team sports are a great way for students to build their confidence, leadership skills and teamwork abilities. I continue to be impressed by these young ladies and am extremely proud of our undefeated season."
Congratulations to our teams! Don’t forget to come out for the Regional Championship on Wednesday to cheer on the Lady Eagles volleyball!
