Community Service

Get Involved, Make a Difference

At Montverde Academy, every student gets the chance to make an impact through our Community Service program. In fact, 100 percent of our students volunteer, working on projects that truly make a difference—both right here in our local community and across the globe.

Why does community service matter? It’s more than just a requirement. It’s about taking action to improve the world around you. It helps you develop leadership skills, grow your empathy, and connect with others in meaningful ways. Plus, the experiences you’ll gain—whether it’s working with local organizations, helping people in need, or even volunteering abroad—will shape you into a compassionate, proactive citizen.

Here’s what you need to know:

How many hours? You’re required to complete 25 hours of community service every year from grades 9-12.

  • When can you start? You can start earning service hours the summer after finishing eighth grade. These hours can accumulate throughout the school year, as well as during summer breaks.
  • How do you keep track? All hours should be logged in the Helper Helper app, an easy-to-use tool for tracking and organizing your service hours.
  • What counts as service? Community service involves working to help others—whether it’s through volunteer work, community projects, or service trips. Make sure your hours are verified through a certificate, email, phone call, or Helper Helper confirmation.
  • Get approval first: All service hours must be approved by the Dean of Students Office to make sure they align with the Academy’s guidelines. If you’re not sure whether your activity qualifies, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Assistant Dean of Students for Multiculturalism, Leadership, and Student Programs.

At Montverde Academy, we believe that service isn’t just something you check off a list—it’s about making a real difference. So, start thinking about how you can get involved and contribute to your community in ways that matter!
