Poetry in the Park

Poetry in the Park

In their Writing Workshop, second graders have been working hard on their unit on poetry, learning about and writing different styles of poems. Towards the end of the unit, students copied one of their completed poems onto a manuscript page for a book and added an illustration page.

Last week, they showcased their creativity at Poetry in the Park. Each student proudly read original poems, which were published in a special book for their class. The young poets explored a variety of styles including haiku, relationship, sensory, acrostic, shape, and cinquain poems.

The students enjoyed a delightful morning of literature and leisure, with one class having a picnic in the park, while the other class read their verses, then switching places. A heartfelt thanks to the parent volunteers who made the picnic possible and to everyone who joined us to support our students and their poetry.
