Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Leading up to MLK Day, members of the Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) hosted a special presentation during assembly in honor of Martin Luther King Jr., focusing on the theme of service. The event celebrated Dr. King’s legacy by highlighting the importance of giving back to the community—a value he championed throughout his life.
Each NJHS member shared personal stories about their involvement in service projects, both on and off campus. From neighborhood clean-up efforts and donating to school supply drives to volunteering at local summer camps and helping the elderly, their examples inspired the audience to think about how they, too, can make a difference.
“I feel it is important to talk about MLK and service because it can have a positive impact on you and your community,” said seventh grader and NJHS member Philip Tanis.
To wrap up, the NJHS held a lively trivia session based on the information they shared. Students eagerly participated, competing for small prizes as they tested their knowledge about Martin Luther King Jr. and the importance of service. The interactive activity added an element of fun and encouraged students to engage more deeply with the topic.
This presentation not only celebrated Dr. King’s enduring impact but also motivated students to consider how they can contribute to their community. It was a powerful reminder that service, no matter how big or small, is a meaningful way to honor his dream.
