In addition to developing students academically, Montverde Academy also places an emphasis on developing students physically through positive interscholastic competition. The Academy offers a strong athletic program and belongs to the Florida High School Activities Association (FHSAA). Montverde Academy maintains teams for boys in baseball, golf, cross-country, track, swimming (on demand), basketball, tennis, and soccer. The Academy also maintains teams for girls in cross-country, volleyball, basketball, track, swimming (on demand), and tennis.
The Academy athletes are able to utilize a 15-acre athletic field that includes a 440-yard asphalt running track, soccer field, baseball diamond, and four tennis courts. Montverde Academy has the distinguished honor of being the only private boarding school in the Central Florida area with a facility of this type. There is also a swimming pool and two gymnasiums that are used by the students. In addition, a new 2,400 square foot fitness center was completed in 1997. Fitness classes and fitness clubs meet regularly to take advantage of the state-of-the-art facility.
Physical education is required of all students from grades seven through 10 unless a physician advises otherwise. Students in grades 11 and 12 may take physical education for credit if they desire. It is the goal of the athletic program and the Physical Education Department at Montverde Academy to foster physical development in a positive environment.
Recreation
Each week the Dean of Residential Life prepares an activity schedule for the upcoming week and weekend. Recreational activities include swimming, baseball, water skiing, dancing, going to the movies, taking trips to nearby Orlando attractions, deep-sea fishing trips, Central Florida Fair events, movies on the wide-screen television, etc. The activity schedule varies from week to week as the students help to plan and suggest various forms of recreation they enjoy.
Facilities
Montverde Academy has an excellent outdoor athletic complex. The complex includes a six-lane, 440-yard asphalt running track, soccer field, softball diamond and four tennis courts. The entire complex is completely enclosed by a six-foot fence. The Academy has the distinguished honor of being the only private boarding school in the Central Florida area with a facility of this type.
Waterfront Activities
Montverde Academy offers waterfront activities for students who wish to participate. Facilities are available for water skiing and canoeing along with other lake activities. No student will be allowed to participate in these activities unless parental permission is granted; nor will any waterfront activities occur which are not supervised by the Academy personnel. With special arrangements and permission, students may in some cases be permitted to bring their own water-activity equipment, such as skis, canoes, etc. Waterfront activities take place on Lake Florence, which is located directly adjacent to the Academy campus.
