Equestrian
As part of a diverse athletic program offered to the students of Montverde Academy, the Riding Program is dedicated to providing safe, quality instruction for both horse and rider. This program establishes a strong foundation in riding and horsemanship to supplement our challenging college preparatory education. Lessons are offered to young people in grades two through twelve. The skills required to be a successful equestrian are not only applicable in riding, but in life as well. The following are some of the aspects of character that we strive to develop in our students:
Dedication,
Discipline,
Competition,
a sense of individual accomplishment,
being a good member of a team,
self-confidence and
development of skill and talent.
Our Equestrian Program meets the needs of all levels of riders, from the beginner to the advanced. This includes both the competitive and recreational equestrian. The Academy's instructional focus in equitation-based in two disciplines: Walking Seat, English and Western; and Hunter/Jumper. In addition, the Montverde Equestrian Program includes the development of good horsemanship and general stable management skills.
Opportunities for competition are provided through local shows: Florida Walking and Racking Horse Association, Walking Horse Owners' Association, GOHJA, and various "A" rated horse shows.
The stable and riding facilities are located on our 125-acre campus in Montverde, Florida. The Equestrian Center boasts a 39-stall barn with two Tack/Equipment Rooms. Montverde Academy has three outdoor riding arenas with all weather footing and commercial sprinkler systems. There are several paddocks and fields for daily turnout.
Montverde Equestrian Center has many school-owned horses suitable for varying riding levels and offer stalls for student-owned horses. Montverde Academy upper school students ride three days per week to fulfill 1/3 of their physical education requirement and team members receive 1/2 credit for their physical education requirement but may ride as often as five days per week if they choose.
