Trust the process. That's the driving idea behind Montverde Academy's boys and girls cross country team, as students learn to have faith in a long-term challenging training regimen. Through consistent personal effort, runners see themselves improve over time in a sport that requires mental and physical strength and endurance.

Runners compete both individually and as part of a team and in recent years have traveled to meets including the FLRunners.com Invitational, the Hagerty Invitational, the Overbay-Monte Carlo Invitational, and the Little Everglades Pre-State Invitational.

In 2006, Head Coach Troy Urquhart took on the challenge of growing a team of distance runners, and the Academy has advanced distance runners beyond the district level every year since 2008. The Cross Country team advanced individual runners to the FHSAA 1A State Finals in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, the girls team won second place in the Lake-Sumter County Championships, three runners earned All-County honors, and both the boys and girls teams advanced to the FHSAA 1A Region 2 Meet.

In 2009, Montverde Academy runner Ciara Hopkins was named Lake County Runner of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel, and in 2010, she was named Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year by the Central Florida Sports Commission.

The team trains on the challenging hills of Montverde and the surrounding area.
